Dear fellow villagers, I am researching into the servicemen whose names are listed on our War Memorial.Whilst reasonably successful in homing in most names, two elude me. viz George PENTON (World War 1) and George William PENTON (World War 2) The only matches I have would indicate that the former was a member of the Middlesex Regiment and the latter a member of the Merchant Navy but in neither case is there any evidence linking them to this area. Any information, either factual or anecdotal, that places one or both in this village would be tremendously helpful. Thank you in anticipation, Regards, Dave Knight.

Hi Ken, I am sorry to learn that you are standing down as webmaster. Being an ex-pat of sorts, I have enjoyed this site very much so thank you for that. What happens now? Will it be taken on or will it just slowly die? I do hope its the first option. Good luck with whatever you are to do in the future. Maybe you will re-kindle your interest for the website after a time away from it. I do hope so.

Hello from Vancouver Island, Thank you for letting me look at your website. I too have been researching family history mainly the Bowsher side. I have a brick wall which is finding Anthony Bowsher born 1729 ? his children were born in East Garston but unable to find where he was born. If any one has any information please contact me. Thank you Ken and Liz my old school mate and friend. Good to see this web site. Well done. Jan Yuill (nee Bowsher)

We had so much fun learning to Morris Dance for the fete that several people have asked if we can continue in East Garston. If you are interested in joining the group, please get in touch with me at Lime Tree Cottage.

Many thanks to everyone involved with the fete for making it such a fab day. The scarecrows were fantastic and it was great fun looking out for the new ones which appeared each day the week before (how many people jammed on their brakes to help the poor girl falling out of the telephone box? and did you spot the caravan with the scarecrow kite flying?) Thank you to the organisers who worked so hard - but didn't they pull it off!!

We are thinking of producing a Christmas card or cards for The Shop to sell and would be very interested to see Christmas photographs of the village or surrounding area that we could use. There must be plenty after last year's snow! Do get in touch.

Hello, I have enjoyed viewing this website, because a number of my ancestors came from East Garston. I have traced them back to the 1700's. Does anyone have any information about the Paintin, Wise, Huggins, Durley or Poffley families? Is there anyone with those family names still living in East Garston? I am planning on traveling to England this summer, and will be visiting your town. I am looking forward to seeing the church. My great grandparents, John Paintin and Fanny Bowsher (from Eastbury) were married there in 1874, my great great grandfather, John Painting served as the parish clerk, and my great great grandparents, Henry Bowsher and Maria Durley were married there in 1844.

I would like to say a big 'thank you' to everyone at the Social Club involved in putting on the Over 60's Christmas lunch on 14th December. Considering the extremely difficult circumstances they were working under it was a miracle how they produced such a marvellous meal. To the carol singers, bar staff, cooks, waiters and waitresses and especially to Alan and Wendy - WELL DONE.

Hello ken what a brilliant site, I lived in east garston 12 years ago and recently visited for the first time in those 12 years. I have to say how very sad it was to see the shop had closed and how many wonderfull friends had moved on or passed away. But the village looks almost the same as when I left, and this site brings back very happy memories.the only thing i did not enjoy was my visit to the social club although i know how stressfull it is to work on the bar,it was not a busy night and the bar staff were very rude. Having to wait 15 minutes to be served while the barman helped himself to 3 drinks was not how i remembered the place. Anyway keep up the good work ken, brilliant site.

Hi Ken Just a note to say how thrilled I was with the picture I was given as a retirement gift! I've just seen what you've written about the presentation - and noticed you have omitted to say who took that beautiful picture! Of course, most people in East Garston will recognise it as a Ken Tarbox original, but I feel we should make it clear! It really is a wonderful photograph and everyone who has seen it says the same. Many, many thanks. Jo

Hello to those in East garston. Like many I am researching my family history and have discovered that my great great grandfather was born in East Garston in 1832/3. His name was William Baker (father James) and he later became a police officer - probably one of the first, in Shipton under Wychwood where he presumably married a local girl as his son was born there. Would be most grateful if anyone has any info regarding William - also anything regarding his father James who hailed from Warfield. Many thanks.
